A Day To Relax

On Friday morning, I celebrated Mass with the school children and parishioners of Holy Name in Sheridan. One of the students who was to be Confirmed on Wednesday night was stranded with other students in Laramie due to all the snow in the SE part of the state.  So, I offered to Confirm her during the school Mass.  It was a great way to begin the day.

After Mass, academic awards were handed out.  I was impressed with the high percentage of students achieving at such a high level.

Then, the real fun began.  There is a world class fisherman and guide in the parish by the name of Bob Krumm.  Though he grew up in Michigan, he came to the West at a young age.  He has degrees in biology and zoology which are combined with a true love for the outdoors, and a unique skill for tying flies and helping others catch trout.  Fr. Louis Shea and I benefited from his tutelage and guidance on Friday.  If you are looking for someone to guide you for a great fishing trip, talk to Bob Krumm.

Once we purchased our license and loaded our gear, we drove into Montana for an afternoon of wade fishing on the Tongue River in Montana.  Bob can tell stories all day long.  Mostly, he can put you on fish.  We caught some beautiful Rainbow and Brown Trout as well as enjoyed some beautiful weather and scenery.

After all the winter driving from one place to the next this week, it was good to spend a day outdoors with good people and focusing on nothing but improving my cast.  Fr. Heiser joined us for at some point to enjoy a chance to wet a line and enjoy a meal.  Bob rustled up some pretty good grub for an onshore meal about midway through the afternoon.

The catch of the day was a 19 1/2 inch Rainbow that weighed just shy of 3 1/2 pounds.   I look forward to getting back again to enjoy some more of Bob Krumm’s stories.  More than anything, it is good to simply spend time with someone who has such a knowledge of aquatic life, local history, and an all around love for the outdoors.
